Charlotte
Emma
Moore
Sitterly (
1898
-1990), American astronomer. Education: BS, Swarthmore College, 1920; PhD, astronomy, University of California, 1931. Professional experience: Princeton; National Bureau of Standards (NBS). Research: solar spectroscopy; ultraviolet spectral lines. Her tables of atomic spectra and energy levels, published by NBS, have remained essential references in spectroscopy.
Scope of Material:
Interviewee discusses her career at the National Bureau of Standards (NBS). The highlights include: her association with Dr. Henry Norris Russell at Princeton, her work on the Multiplet Table of Astrophysical Interest, and her work on the atomic energy levels program at NBS.
